The Observer Magazine
03/31/12 10:14 AM
Last
month I was interviewed by my alma mater, The University of
Hartford to be featured in their winter issue of their
magazine The Observer. The Observer
is published three times per year and is circulated to nearly
75,000 alumni, parents, and friends of the University. The
article talks about my journey after I graduated and my experiences
illustrating for American Girl. Thanks to everyone at the Observer
for making such a lovely piece!

Taking a Breath
03/15/12 11:44 PM
The past
few months has been a whirlwind of a ride. My American Girl books
came out, followed by a string of books signings, all while
illustrating my first full picture book. I just handed in my book
and now I'm planning my next steps. I get to take a nice big breath
and enjoy the calm before the next storm.

Otis Library American Girl Tea Party
and Book Signing
01/28/12 07:23 PM
I may not
remember this library, but my parents sure do. My latest book
signing at the Otis Library in Norwich, CT is not only the town of
my birthplace, but Its the town where both my parents were born and
raised. I can even trace back my family tree to my Great-Great
Grandparents emmigrating to Norwich from Ireland in the 1850s.
Needless to say, I was so happy to be truely "home" again. And boy
do these guys throw a great tea party!

Simsbury Public Library Book
Signing
01/17/12 06:30 PM
Believe
it or not, this wasn't my first lecture and book signing at the
Simsbury Public Library. I was here 9 years ago when I illustrated
a coloring book for the Simsbury Tourism Committee called
"Let's
Visit Simsbury, Connecticut!" when I was in high school. It was great to be
back again and show them how much I've grown as an
artist.

Twisters
12/20/11 05:18 PM
Here's a
spot illustration I did for the short story "Twisters" featured in
the text book "iLit Remix: A Revolution of Text Forms." Although it
was a small illustration, I had a great time painting
it!

It's Vegas!
12/09/11 03:07 PM
I just
got back from my second book signing! I had an incredible week out
in Vegas for the Hudson Group Vendor Show. I was invited out as one
of the guests to sign books at the conference amoungst stars such
as Emeril Lagasse and John Legend. I think I nearly died when I got
to meet Emeril and personally hand him one of my signed books! I'm
not sure how I'm going to top this trip.... now back home to the
grindstone. I'm almost at the painting stage of the book I'm
Illustrating, Yay!

everyone for visiting me at the St. Mary's School Scholastic Book
Fair. It was a thrill for me to be back at my hometown to share my
great American Girl experiences and read from selections of the
books. Check out all of the pictures on my Facebook
Page. The next stop on my
book signing tour will be the Simsbury Public Library.

American Girl
08/09/11 10:35 PM
I am very
pleased to announce my first children's book series has been
released! American Girl has just introduced their two newest Historical
Character Dolls from New Orleans: Cecile and
Marie-Grance. See 1850s New
Orleans come to life through their series of six historical
fiction books illustrated
by yours truly. After over two years of work, its very thrilling to
finally see the final published books. I hope everybody will enjoy
reading these books just as much as I enjoyed painting
them.

Simsbury High School Art Show
Judge
05/25/11 10:12 PM
Today I
was invited out to be a judge for the Simsbury High School Art
Show. It was amazing to be back home again and to finally be apart
of the behind-the-scenes activity. I loved seeing my old art
teachers who were some of the first to inspire me. Amoungst the
beautiful array of drawings, sculpture, and photography, we finally
narrowed it down to one fashion designer with a portfolio of
amazing dresses built out of "found" objects for the Best in
Show.

Swan Lake
05/15/11 07:02 PM
Here's my
latest painting, "Swan Lake". For a while I've been wanting to get
in touch with my more Fine Arts side. One afternoon I was out
walking in the park in Stamford, CT and I became enchanted by this
one swan. Here she was, swimming all by herself, just roaming
around the pond. She was this tiny spot of light amoungst a sea of
darkness. Here is my homage to the swan queen of the lake.

Aaaaargh!!
02/20/11 10:14 AM
I just
finished my newest portfolio piece "Walking the Plank." This was a painting I started years ago, but I
had gotten sidetracked with other projects. Now I finally had some
free time in between all my children's books work to finish it up.
Enjoy!

Flowers for Mom
12/27/10 07:09 PM
For about
as long as I can remember, my mom has been asking me to paint her a
picture of flowers. I finally found a lull between work to complete
this painting for my dear mother for her Christmas present. I hope
she liked it :)

Where Books Come to Life
08/09/09 06:18 PM
New
painting! I have finally had some downtime in between my paintings
and I would like to introduce my newest self promotional piece,
"Where Books Come to Life." As an avid reader myself, I truly
believe in the power of books. A good author can build a complete
world through our imagination and bring us on adventures beyond our
wildest dreams. This painting is my portrayal of the deep impact a
really great book can have on its readers. I can picture this
painting being used by a library or any company trying to promote
reading for children.

Farmer Cow Miniatures
11/02/08 12:31 PM
I was
finally able to retouch my dear "Farmer Cow." She is now back to
new and is showcasing across Connecticut for the next few months.
In addition, her miniatures
are now out on sale.

Artist's Magazine
10/20/08 03:05 PM
My
"Geisha" piece has been selected as a finalist in the
Portrait/Figure category of The Artist's Magazine 25th Annual Art
Competition. And my name will be featured in the December issue of
the magazine!

Children's Book Agent
09/25/08 09:32 PM
I have
recently found myself a Children's Book Agent. This wonderful woman
named Christina
Tugeau loved my artwork and
has decided to take me on as one of her artists. So this will take
some time, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Hopefully I will finally get to publish a Children's
Book.
New Job
09/11/08 07:11 PM
I am
currently no longer working as a Security Guard at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. In fact, I'm not even living in New York any more. I
am now working for an amazing company called Product Ventures.
This company specializes in product design, and I am their new full
time Illustrator. So I am living back in CT again, in the lovely
town of Stamford. The job is incredible; I am working full time as
an Illustrator and I'm simply living my dream..
Farmer Dumpty
05/01/08 11:59 PM
Thanks to
the hard work and determination of The Cow Parade, my dear Farmer
Cow (or as I call her, Elsie), has been brought back to life. They
were some how able to fix any of the cracks and put her back
together. All I have to say is that my King's horses and men must
be better than Humpty Dumpty's. Pretty soon I will be going back
home to do a touch up paint job and she will be as good as new for
all the world to see.
Society of Illustrators Award
03/04/08 05:53 PM
I have
just been informed that my piece title "Bow" has been accepted into
the Society of Illustrators Student Show. That's two years in a row
now that my work has been chosen. This year had the largest amount
of entries in their history, with a total of 5,683 entries and only
130 winners. My piece will be hanging at the Society of
Illustrators from April 30-May 16, so if you're in the area you
should stop by.

SCBWI Conference
02/12/08 08:25 PM
This past
weekend I was thrilled to have attended the Annual Winter Society
of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators Conference in NYC. It
was a weekend filled back to back with amazing speakers. After this
amazing weekend I'm ready and raring to go. So children's books,
watch out!!
Bad News Good New
01/26/08 07:11 PM
Well I've
got my first bad news. Thanks to some kids, my Farmer Cow is no
longer with us. She was apparently vandalized beyond repair, with
huge cracks going through her. So there ends the short life of poor
Elsie. She was a good cow.
On a better note, Elsie was chosen as one of the cows to be
reproduced into a miniature version. So if anybody is interested in
owning a mini version of my Farmer Cow, she will be on sale some
time in the near future.

West Hartford Cow Parade
10/12/07 04:41 PM
If you'd
like to see a life-size cow painted as a farmer you really should
visit the West Hartford Cow
Parade. Commissioned
by The Farmer's Cow company again, I was hired to paint what is now my
"Farmer Cow" (or as my family has named her, Elsie). Quite simply
she is a cow painted realistically to look as if she is dressed as
a farmer. This project became one of my most difficult pieces of
artwork, but she was definitely worth the effort.

New York City
09/11/07 05:01 PM
It's
official now, I'm finally all moved in to New York City and I am
beginning my new job as a Security Officer at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. I spend my whole day surrounded by Rembrandt,
Caravaggio, and Vermeer. I can't imagine a more inspiring place to
work. The city is great and if you're ever in the area, visitors
will always be welcome.
First Publications
07/31/07 03:26 PM
Run to
the grocery stores! I have just finished my first set of published
works. The Farmer's Cow is a Connecticut family-owned company who brings
fresh products made right here in CT to the every day consumer.
Until now, The Farmer's Cow specialized in milk. In May, they hired
me to paint three backgrounds for their new drink products they're
releasing. Their new line is called "The Farmer's Daughter's", and
it includes a Lemonade, an Ice Tea, and a Lemonade Tea Mix which
should all be out in stores any day now. So keep your eyes
open!

CADC Design Ain't Pretty Awars
06/26/07 03:28 PM
On
Thursday, June 21st, the Connecticut Art Directors Club held the
award ceremony to their annual spring competition called Design
Ain't Pretty. In their student category, three of my pieces
received awards. Both my pieces "The Lion and the Mouse" and
"Geisha" received Excellence Awards and my piece "Abby on the
Stairs" won a Gold Award.
3x3 Student Award
05/23/07 09:02 PM
I have
just received notice that my piece "The Lion and the Mouse" has won
another award. Every year the 3x3 Magazine has an international
student competition and they have awarded my piece with a
Distinctive Merit. With a 20% increase in entries this year, only
5% made it to the winner's circle. It will be published in the 3x3
Illustration Annual No. 4 due out in January 2008.
The End
05/21/07 01:51 PM
This
finally marks the end of a great four years at the Hartford Art
School. Yesterday morning I graduated with my BFA in Illustration
from the University of Hartford. I am thrilled to announce that I
was honored with the Doris Kinsella Student Achievement Award. I
will dearly miss all of my friends and teachers. This may mark the
end of one part of my life, but it also marks the beginning of
something new. Also, on May 5th the Illustration class showcased
our achievements with our Senior Show in the Joseloph Gallery at
the University of Hartford.
Society of Illustrators Award
03/10/07 12:09 PM
I am
happy to announce that my piece "The Lion and the Mouse" got into
the Society of llustrators Student Show. It will be showcased
during the month of May at the Society of Illustrators. Out of
4,000 entries, only 116 were chosen for the show. I'd like to thank
both Bill Thomson and Dennis Nolan who helped me out with all of my
Lion and Mouse book. And hopefully this will be a good step to
getting the book published in the future.

Book Dummies
12/20/06 04:04 PM
The fall
semester of my senior year has just come to the end, and I'm very
proud to have completed my first book dummy. Based on a folk song
called "My Aunt Came Back," my story follows the adventures of a
young girl playing in her backyard, imagining the travels of her
lost doll. With the 32 page book dummy, I finished three paintings
that cover 6 pages of the book.
In addition, I am currently working on a book dummy on my version
of the old "The Lion and the Mouse" fable by Aesop. In my story,
the Lion and the Mouse are stuffed animals who live in the jungle
of a girl's bedroom. Three paintings for this book will be
completed next semester along with several other book ideas I have
in the works currently.
Welcome
08/11/06 07:55 PM
I gladly
welcome you to my first webpage. As with everything else in life,
this is and will continue to be a "work in progress." Not because I
am unsatisfied with this product, but because one can always do
better. Please feel free to browse and I would love to hear any of
your advice or comments.
